| May152019If you have stopped by the Smilin’ Dog Bakery, you’ll know we’re avid fans of raw fermented goat milk. There are many uses and health benefits for both your cat and dog! Plus, most picky eaters dig it. You might have noticed in a previous blog that we mentioned goat milk, however, we think this superfood deserves its own in-depth blog.
I bet you’re dying to learn more about this superfood! Am I right?
Well, let’s jump in!
Health Benefits
Ok, so, raw fermented goat milk is loaded with active probiotics, living enzymes, omegas (fatty-acids), vitamins and minerals. Most of us know what probiotics are and why they’re important for human health. However, they are just as essential for our pets!
That means probiotics help to restore and maintain a healthy gut by balancing your pet’s good and bad bacteria – which in turn helps to alleviate digestive issues, allergies, and other gut-related ailments. Keep in mind that probiotics are living microorganisms and need to remain in the refrigerator or freezer so they don’t die off. That’s why raw fermented goat milk typically comes in frozen cartons.
Our article “Your Dog and Cat Need Fish Oil” goes over the many essential benefits of omega-3 and omega-6, both of which contain long-chain fatty acids, such as EPA and DHA. Benefits of these include improving brain, eye, mental and heart health, along with an improvement in skin and coat health.

You will find the same probiotics as previously listed, and depending on the flavor cheese there can be other ingredients such as, organic cranberries, organic ginger, organic spirulina, and organic turmeric.
Incorporating Goat Milk
There are a multitude of ways you can add this superfood into your pet’s diet.
- Add it to their food by pouring the appropriate amount of goat milk into their bowl of food each morning. You can add it to any type of food – raw, dehydrated, freeze-dried or kibble (dry dog or cat food). Bonus points if you feed freeze-dried raw, because adding goat milk helps to rehydrate the food.
- Pour it into a bowl by itself. Trust us, this stuff is that delicious! Your dog will be slurping it down.
- Make popsicles out of it by pouring the milk into an ice cube tray with our Nutty Chicken or Jammin’ Jerky as the popsicle stick. Not only is it fun to watch your dog gobble up, but it will help to keep them cool in those summer months.
- Give your pet the goat milk cheese as training treats or just for fun!
After reading this article we’re sure it’s easy to understand why we’re such fans of raw goat milk. Even though we are not medical professionals, we do truly believe every dog can benefit from this superfood.
